Alternative Investments for 2013

There is an account I have where I have been collecting gold. In a recent post, I described why I am transforming this account from the GLD ETF into a physical gold account that I have securely stored. This is a very small account because it is only 2% of my total investment accounts. Also, as I noted in an earlier post, the price of gold dropped 25% in 2013. My account was down 23.9% as the small amount of cash I have partially offset the large decrease.

This is the fourth and final fund review for 2013. The year was better than baseline but less than the benchmark. I don’t know how often I will review the investments though it might be nice when I make meaningful changes. The next few posts might be about academics, which will be a powerful theme in 2014.
